This was the best training I have experienced on this topic! The presenters were excellent and seemed to be very much aware of the stake of information on this topic. They also stated frequently the limits on their understanding. We took myself and one other to the training. Our recommendation is that our Vice-Chancellor send most of the rest of the Threat Assessment Team to this training. By the way the training is free other than getting yourself there. I understand that they have just been funded to do another 5.

Campus Threat Assessment Training: A Multidisciplinary Approach for Institutions of Higher Education

In the true spirit of community oriented policing and under a grant from the US Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Margolis, Healy & Associates is developing a multi-disciplinary training curriculum on campus threat assessment. The curriculum will be delivered in multiple one-day free training seminars around the United States in the Fall of 2009 and early 2010. The seminars are for representatives from campus security and local law enforcement; administration; counseling; judicial officers; attorneys; student affairs; faculty; risk management; human resources; and students.

The curriculum addresses the behavioral, psychological, legal, and public safety elements of assessing and managing potentially dangerous behavior on campus. Campus threat assessment epitomizes community policing and when successfully done it relies upon collaboration and partnerships in the community. Our model of campus threat assessment is based on empirical information about the causes of campus crime and violence.

Campus threat assessment focuses on helping a person of concern to solve problems that motivate them to consider harm, and connects them with the necessary resources to solve those problems. The training curriculum and program design address several recommendations generated from the National Summit on Campus Public Safety: (1) promoting collaboration; (2) operating a safe campus (prevention and response); and (3) strengthening operations and administrative functions.
